Okay guys so I got a trio of cacz in a 2ft setup for about 2 weeks give or take now (used to be the home of a baloon ram until he passed about 3 weeks ago)

Anyway they were doing fine eating normal etc etc

Today however I have noticed that the 1 female is in her cave and she has eggs (quite easy to see as my caves arnt the flower pots with holes inside them but rather half a pot split down the middle to make 2 caves)

So she has taken up residence there and there are a few eggs (doubt more than 30 they are still small)

Anyway I need advice about whether I should leave it be in the tank or should I remove her and the eggs to a 1.5ft or a 1ft, I'm a little worried to leave her there as it is a standard 2ft (+- 16 gal) and she might not like having the other female around

Let me know any advice or ideas guys

    Thanks

Hi there bud congrates on the eggs, so in my limited experience, here's the deal, they are great parents but only after the 2nd or 3 hatch, chances are she or he will eat them before they hatch... The best thing you could do is move the other female and wait and see...

Hey @Lizid thanks for the speedy response, yeah I know about the normal cichlid after 2nd or 3rd hatch thing as I have kept and bred other cichlids sometimes I've gotten lucky on the 1st and others well it was just a wait and see, hmmmm I can remove the other female not a bad choice, I think I shall do that if the 1 still has eggs by tomorrow I will add the other female to my 3ft ( how well do you think female betta's would get along with her lol )

congratz @zedz ,things are looking up,remove the other female and the male as his done his job .the female is more than capable of looking after the eggs and fry herself,it also helps if either get aggressive towards each other.this is how i do it ,not that i breed thousands !

Thanks @firemanmuzz been a while since we last chat, that thought had also crossed my mind to remove the male and the excess female but I'm not sure as yet as I would have to sacrifice my 1.5ft breeding tank for my fighters lol I will go and take a look at whats the best plan I can make provided the eggs are there tomorrow, will keep you updated :)

This would all be so good if I did not leave the hobby when I started campus, I think I got more broken tanks and equipment now than usable ones, the fishroom became a storage space and then a computer repair workspace, I got a lot of work to do to create my old room back and perhaps make it even better, hopefully this is a sign that things are starting to go on track

Here is a pic of the male :) and 1 female

wow thanks for the super loud congrats @Moolis (ears ringing a bit lol) oh and nice pic btw that is a cac also am I right?

@firemanmuzz Make sure you plan it right, I just took the room and put tanks in it (spent quite a bit also and then I quit like an idiot) you got the chance to do it right from the start plus you got the forum for any help you may need good luck and ask me if you need anything that I could perheps help with :)

I intend on making the fish that are not so hard to get out of durban also not so hard to get in durban, I started with CT betta's (still have to come right with them) and now these cac's (hopefully I shall come right with them also) I know of someone breeding bn plecs as well for some reason I have never seen them in a petshop over here (maybe its just me) so if i get some from him I will try my hand at those too, all goes well I'll make a couple of clamps and have some fun as well, worst case scenario is I just have fun :D
