A month or so ago I setup three 73l tanks (60x35x35cm) to breed Apistos.

I'm currently still waiting on the specific Apisto I'm looking for so in the mean time they're stocked with a calico Bristlenose, 2 ram females and 2 Apisto Cacatuoides.

Recently I add a pair of rams from my main display tank into the third breeder. To my surprise, two days later I had eggs.

They're currently two weeks old and luckily my pair seems to be great parents so far.

That's awesome - and quite unusual that the parents are keeping it together! 2 Weeks is great - pretty much home free.
My dedicated breeder pair have taken a break for a while for whatever reason, and the others' eggs don't last long.

I'll hopefully focus on the rams again in December when I have more time.
As to Apistos - wish we had better stock locally, but I tend to prefer rams for now.
Nonetheless will follow your breeding with interest.

I used to keep quite a few apistos but sadly only ever managed to breed one pair and even they only a few fry survived. A. Veijita was my favorite pair - lived about 2 or 3 years before dying. The A. Borelli was the pair that spawned for me. Also kept A .Agazzazzi currently have a A.Cacautoides female.

I was quite surprised as well as it's their first time spawning.

Me too.. There aren't really any good Apisto options locally.

Don't get me wrong I love my rams but my Apistos are such characters, they're the most gangster lil fish

Update: I bought another breeder so I currently have 4.

Tank 1: GBR fry which are still doing well and will be 9 weeks old tomorrow. Unfortunately I did lose 2 between then and now though which is always upsetting.

Tank 3: Apistogramma Viejita pair. I received both pairs on the 12th of December.

I'm sure the female has eggs/fry in her cave but she hasn't brought them out yet so we'll see.

Tank 4: Apistogramma Hongsloi 'super red' pair. The female was in her cave for quite awhile then on the 5th of Jan I spotted the fry for the first time. I have about 26 fry

Those are looking awesome! Been a while since I saw any good quality ones in a LFS... Had some a few years back that I had to rehome when they started to spawn :(

Yes, unfortunately they are very hard to find locally so I ended up having them imported.

I'm so sorry to hear that!

It happens, I ended up giving them back to the friend they came from, so still got to see them till he moved up country. I think he actually imported them originally too though.

Yes, I also do half tap and RO. Plus have IAL, wood and rooibos.

Also tried a few things to induce spawning
