Anyone use purigen

Hey has anyone used Purigen? I just got some for my 1.2m I read the package and instructions but i'd like to know if anyone has actually used the stuff and noticed a difference? Oh and lets leave the price and where i got it out of this thread LOL.

 

Yes we use it and to be honest I haven't seen much of a difference between the tanks that have Purigen in them and the others which don't.

 

i got some for the tannin from my wood it works for that

 

LOL!!!!

Gert is using it and he really loves it....told me on Saturday that it does make a difference. I can't comment as I never used it before

Started using it last weekend. There is a definate difference in my tank since I put it in. My reason for using it was also tannin and it cleared my 400lt tank in 2 days. Definately recommend it. Costly but worth it.

 

Okay perhaps I'm not seeing a difference because I didn't have a tannin problem???? Seems as though everyone who's seen a difference has been due to tannin......I'll be setting up another 1.2m probably over the weekend and will add new wood to the tank and then I'll most likely see a difference

 

I find it definately adds a sparkle to the water and it brought my nitrate level down.

 

Could be coincidental.

 

We've been using Purigen for as long as its been on the market and its excellent! besides its "polishing" capabilities, its excellent at controlling nitrites, nitrates and ammonia this can be confirmed if you do a before and after test on your tank... Its pricy but remember that it can be regenerated!

 

we use this product in heavily stocked marine holding tanks and therefore do not re-use more than 4/5 times. I cant comment on home aquarium regeneration use but I would imagine that it would be safe to regenerate it many times. The best way to check its effectivenes is to continually test the tank water and when you find that the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels are not kept in check at the readings first obtained with using purigen then you know its time to get a new bottle :blink1:

What is the main purpose of Purigen, and where do you put it... in the filter?

I have tannins in my tank that I usually only manage to control through water changes, but if Purigen will cure, then I will invest...

 

Hi Zoom - Purigen is used to polish or to clean your water, also to get rid of unwanted impurities. Works very well at getting rid of Tannins - Recommended

 

Zoom, what I have is a smallish internal power filter that I use. I remove the AC and put a bag of Purigen in the space the AC was and run it for 3 - 5 days to clear the water. I also have a major tannin problem so I started using Purigen last week.

 

Do ou need to take the purigen out when you medicate/dechlor?

 

Dechlor no but some medications will inhibit the regeneration of the stuff, the container suggests taking it out with some slime coat meds. Have a look at this it will tell u everything about it http://www.seachem.com/Products/product_pages/Purigen.html
