Anyone that has kept betta macrostoma or betta rubra before?

I'm interested in getting a pair of either of them but I have never kept them before. Anyone who has any information of their experiences with their care, behaviour and breeding would be much appreciated.

That Betta Macrostoma looks almost like a colourful mini pike.
With a mouth that size, you can clearly see that they can take quite large prey.
Shrimp will never be safe with those fish in the same tank.

 

Actually @Pezulu they're a mouthbrooding species, you use that cavernous mouth space for holding on to their fry. They're found in slightly more moderately flowing waters than other Betta, so can't rely on bubble nests.

Although no doubt I'm sure they will also use the mouth for more devious and predatory purposes!

 

I've kept macrostoma, maybe some 10 or 12 years ago. Started off with 3 pairs. They're jumpers, if I remember correctly. I used to use Indian almond leaves those days to soften the water and keep them happy.
