    Looks like they might be in the same family as gouramis? What do y'all think?

    nope the top one looks almost like umbrella cichlid (apistogramma) the bottom one is dwarf flag cichlid. (petstop has)

    They look like dwarf flag cichlid. But thats only a guess

    The pair looks like red breasted acaras in my opinion. The single one definetely flag cichlid.

    Common names can be easily confused, with all the flags ..lol

    Top : Laetacara curviceps
    Looks like you got the picture from tfhmagazine.com, I found the identical image
    they do name the fish there
    Common Names: Smiling acara, flag acara, flag cichlid, curviceps, dwarf flag cichlid, sheepshead acara, blunt-head cichlid, etc.

    Bottom : Mesonauta insignis or M festivus , most likely.
    There are about 6 aquarium hobby species
    I've known them as festive , and flag cichlids

    Both are well established in the hobby, but not as common in SA as they were, say 20-25y ago.

    I have kept Festivums in the past.
    Relatively good natured as far as cichlids go.

    good to know,apparently(according to google)they actually grow bigger in aaquariums than in the wild dont know how true is that.also on all the youtube videos i watch of the amazon river everytime you see an angel you see a festivum.
