I had 2 Macrostoma bettas male and female that were already paired and successfully bred before. I brought them home a week ago the female and male were put into the same tank and the male was not eating and acting weird his butt would float up and face down but he would still swim and seem ok sometimes. We tested PH it was high so we did a water change and put prime and stability he was gasping for air more than usual. I looked up the gasping and I read something that said they’re do that if the amonia is too high and we tested everything and it was at 0ppm the ph was also 6.0 and we woke up and he was gone but the female is still fine she hasn’t acted weird at all and they’re in the same water and was trying to figure out what happend to him.

Was the tank properly cycled before introducing the fish?

Have you looked up dropsy in bettas? The floating at weird angles is a symptom..
