    @oscar freak,

    When I get round to it, I plan on doing an Amazonian biotype, with Discus and associated fish.
    I saw a fantastic example in Practical Fish Keeping a few months ago.

    Not sure my Mrs is going to be too pleased. My main display tank is in the lounge, and the water will be heavily stained with tannin (think I am going to use peat extract).

    @oscar freak,

    Not with my tap water. It's too hard.
    I have loads of wood in my tank at the moment. There was a slight colouration when I first put it in, but that didn't last long.

    @oscar freak,

    Yup, Southern England is on chalk/limestone. So our water is very hard and alkaline. Ideal for Malawis when I had them.

    And the main reason I haven't gotten Discus yet - I want them - bad :cry:

    There are parts of the UK where the water is soft and acidic. Not where I live unfortunately.

    I like! I have a mulberry tree you can come hack branches off. You'd need to strip the bark off and let the wood dry. Now is a good time. Being winter, it's already quite dry and you won't chase any little birdies out their nests :) Fruit trees aren't toxic for fishes so that would be fine. You'd just have to soak it to make it sink. Bring your chainsaw - t's time for a re-scape...

    @oscar freak,

    I have seen the hanging wood done very effectively.
    I think the key to it is having the right shaped piece of wood.
