    Hi All.

I was just wondering what methods to use for feeding my fish when we go on holiday.

I saw at the LFS last weekend that Tetra has got a round feeding thingy that you just throw in your tank and it then releases food in it's own time.

The last time I asked my sister to feed my fishes it went hectic ammonia was sky high fish died etc.

I will definetly be adding purigen 2 weeks before I go on leave so it does clean out any unwanted stuff in the water.

    Please advise.

    Thanks.

    @hviviers75,
How long are you going away for?
Anything less than 2 weeks, I don't worry about my fish. They seem fine when I get back
More than 2 weeks I get a friend to come and feed - twice a week. The food is in pre-measured, so there is no chance of over feeding. And with only 2 feeds a week, the Ammonia doesn't go that high.

I don't trust those auto feeders. I have heard reports of moisture getting in and they get jammed up.

Before I go away, I do a 30% water change. And then another 30% wc when I get back.

Have never lost a fish due to neglect, so it seems to work.

Up to (even) 2 weeks, I would not bother with any arrangements..... Enjoy your holliday.

Yup, those holiday blocks do more harm than good.
    I would leave well alone.

okay cool then, my parents will be feeding our cat every 2nd day so will pre-measure food so they can give the fishies food every 2nd or 3rd day.

Im lucky to have family that understand my passion for wet pets and my dad comes by my place every second day when im away, digs earth worms out of my worm farm and hand feeds my Fire Eel for me. :D

If its a long weekend I dont bother them with it but more than four days I get someone to visit them. My brother has a 2m Malawi tank too so I trust his judgement with regards to feedings.

I would never use a feeder block though.
