Any body ever get shocked by your tank?

I have now spend a bit on replacing my heater,air supply and now finally my internal filter. Every time i touched the water,especially when barefoot i get choked. Like an earth leakage somewhere. Now im no electrition,but i hope the problem lies with the internal filter. Even changed my light setup,but to no avail.

Any other suggestions if this doesn't work?

 

It is one of the electricals. I just reseald cable on return pump was doing same

Switch off the appliances you have running and turn them on one by one until you see which one is faulty.

 

Well,at least i have spares for everything now and ready for another tank

Get yourself a stainless steel rod and put it into your tank (you could also use ss welding rod and grind the stuff off and keep just the rod). On the outside you connect a wire/cable to the rod (don't want copper in your tank) and the other end to your earth on your plug.
The earth is the fat/biggest pin. You can use a plug and only wire the stainless steel rod to the fat pin of the plug with nothingvelse connected to the plug and plug it into your extension/wall plug.
As soon as you have equipment malfunction with current creepeage to earth your earth leakage relay (check that it is working properly) will kick in and cut the supply before much can happen to you.
Not funny when you put your hands into the water and get zapped, and yes one member of MASA died a few years ago.
And barefoot is a no-no when you work on fish tanks.

 

Always an interesting topic, since most fish tank stuff I see ships with a 2 pin plug so they are really not designed to have an earth. What I have seen lately with the cheap LED flood lights ... if the live and neutral is switched - irrelevant of it being earthed or not, then the light has a ghost glow even when the power is cut on one of the lines - not that is spooky, do the switch on the other wire and not issue.

I am on wooden floors - but add water to the mix and we are playing a different game. I suspect big problems when the steel frame is earthed by design or bad luck an you are the contact point between the water in the tank and that stand.

Hey @f-fish. See the attached video with regards to the LED floodlights. I have experienced this personally on numerous occasions from LCM and Bid or Buy specials . Hence me sticking to the reputable sellers.

I would also suggest to address the cause rather than the symptoms.

 

Charming, I have 4 of these in 30W above my large tank, got them from from Builders Warehouse. I'll have a closer look at mine as well. Interestingly these hold up much better from a waterproof/ splashproof aspect than many others I've had.

 

Found that it was the damn filter. After replacing it everything is perfect. No more hair standing on end.thanks for all the great advice
