Me and JulsM would like to find out what these are. Sorry its a bit yellow from the tannins. The tank is still very new.

    1. This one is like one big leaf. this does not have any roots . only a stem. had it for about 4 months now.

    2.Just some kind of grass
    [IMG]

    3. I think this is Anubius (spelling)

4.This gets to be very tall. its now starting to sprout leaves .Big one at the back. Small one in the front.

5.Also gets very tall. and the small ones are also getting new leaves.

6.This one is weird. got it 2 months back. the leaves were purple and yellow. I moved it to the pfp tank and now its green and yellow. the leaves grow all the way to the surface . And the roots are in a kind of a "knol" thing

    Franna,

The second pic of the grass... that grass is the typical modo grass we all buy for ground covers in our terrestrial gardens. It will stay alive in your tank for a short time... but eventually the roots will rot under the substrate, and could potentiall cause problems. Keep and eye on it!

Are you sure about that Zoom?? Looks like a Vallis or Dwarf Chain sword to me?? But i am no plant expert, so you could be right??

3 is Defo an Anubia, but I could not tell you which type? 4 looks to me like some king of Hygrophilia, but with all the leaves different sizes and shapes, it could also not be!! 5 looks like a Bacopa to me, but again don't quote me!!

No Idea on 6, but would guess at a lily or Crypt with those Scraggly stems and the oval leaf shapes??

Sorry i can't be of definate help, I would normally not reply to such threads when I am unsure, but since no one else has as yet (other than Zoom), I thought I could a t least try!!

    Cheers
    G!

I'm no plant expert myself. The plant experts have all moved off TASA onto APSA, so we don't get much information here.

I'm 75% sure it's modo grass. It basically doesn't grow, doesn't die... but when it does decide to die... it dies quickly. I would say 85% of the LPS stores in JHB are all selling the stuff as aquatic grass. They make huge profit on it.

    Hi Franna,
#1 I have no clue.Seen it before but it never grew.In time in disintegrated.
    #2 Sorry.
    #3 Definatly Anubias.
#4 Could be Hygrophila species.Several sp. are available in trade.
    #5 Bacopa monnieri,slow grower,looks better in bigger groops.Commonly available.
#6 Tropical lilie, could be Nymphea lotus or Tiger lotus.Needs good light like all lilies.Take good care of this plant, quite scarce, not always available from local wholesalers, infact I have never seen one for sale.
