so i bought this awhile ago when i went to browse a petstore in pta i found this and it was exactly the look i'd been looking for for the background in the betta setup. unfortunately now it is just getting too tall i could trim it but it doesnt look as nice and i would have to trim at least one evry 2 weeks or possibly even less. i havnt the foggiest what it is but could someone suggest an alternative that looks simmilar but doesnt grow to tall. my tank is only 25cm high thanks

If I'm not mistaken, that looks suspiciously like Cabomba caroliana.... A BL species - highly invasive.... But before you go rip it out, just check with some of the plant fundi's on here (Vis,Gert...?)... To replace, look for something name Water Sprite...not sure of Scientific name now - different in growth form, but always reminds me of Cabomba....

@windfire. That is definately Cabomba. It can also be used as a floating plant as far as I know.

That is more likely to be Limnophila sessiliflora, common name Ambulia. Also black listed.
Hygrophila difformis, common name Water wisteria,is a good space filler and has a medium growth rate.
Ceratopteris cornuta, common name Floating fern, looks a bit similar and can be planted or left floating to provide some cover for your Betta.

Cabomba IMHO, and even if floating, they still develop roots, so better performance as planted. They are indeed on the BL, but a good substitute will be Hornwort, which I have yet to see on the blacklist and thay are true floating plants.

Looking at the picture provided,it's Ambulia.
Cabomba and Ambulia is often confused, but they may be distinguished by the fact that the fronds of the Ambulia grow all around the stem, while those of Cabomba are paired.

thanks guys i'm not sure what i'll do with it now but for now i've put the taller plants in the 1.2m and the angels seem to be loving it. i actually have tried water sprite before azurekoi, it took over my 1.2m i had a 10l bucket of the stuff at one point after i yanked it all out for shadowing the swords. i think it may get to tall for this tank as well and im not to mad about the shoots that develope complete with roots making the tank look untidy and unfinished in my opinion. i've had hornwort as a floating plant before in here and all it did was make a mess and shed leaves. where would i source water wisteria or floating fern? i'm going to research it now to check heights as i think this is going to be an issue.
