    Hey Everyone,

Very new to the fish keeping world, had a tank lying around from a family member so decided on a whim let’s give it a go!

as you can expect I went arse backwards in the approach to it but learning as we go along!

Setup the tank in December and so far no fish have died so I’m happy !

cycled the tank for far to little 2 weeks or so before adding some fish and then only did more research on the topic.

current occupants in the tank are
    1 x common pleco
    2 x baby Fantail goldfish
    5 x neon tetra
    4 x male guppies
??? X cherry shrimp I think we added 10 or so right in the beginning, but I originally had a Shubunkin gold fish which I learned quickly that he loved snacking on them

    hardscap
Some wood (no clue on what type)
    Random stone that I liked
    And some live plants
Only know the name of the Java fern which seems to be growing nicely

still have the wood leaching LOTS of tannins, I did soak it in boiling water a few times but I guess it will eventually clear up.

    few random pics

    Some advice

Get rid of the common pleco NOW before you cant rehome it. They grow fast and HUGE

    Get yourself a Bristlenose ancistrus

I’ve heard the growth on these guys is fast!

I do plan on getting a much larger tank a bit later on in the year, 1.2/1.5m long. Would that still be to small ?

    @Mange

    Welcome to the Forum

    Agree re the Pleco.
They get huge, and need a really big tank.
And will probably destroy the plants.

Also, I would take the goldfish back to.
They prefer cooler temps. And won't be happy long term in a tropical tank.

Your decor is really nice and you have a good base for an interesting tank.

    Thanks @Reedfish

the fantails were not part of the original plan, but I’ll be honest when I saw those fat little piggies swimming around I couldn’t help myself haha.
I am already planning an alternative tank to move them over in the future

Welcome! Your tank does look really nice already! Glad everything is surviving still too and that you've already got plans for more tanks. It's addicting!
If you don't like the tannins you could look into adding some activated carbon to the filter, but it actually looks quite nice with the tannins as is imo. Good luck going forward!!

Thanks guys, I have recently added some activated carbon in the filter to help clear up the tannins a bit, believe it or not this is 1000 "clearer" then what it was a couple of weeks ago.
But I don't mind them too much just wanted it a bit clearer to actually see the fish.
