    Hi All,

I have another lot of things that I need ID's for... These are some plants that I purchased that I'm not too sure of, please can you help me ID them...

P.S. I'm really sorry for the very bad pics...

    TIA

This is the first one... It sad but my fish loved the leaves so much that they almost stripped it bare so it's in a bucket busy recovering at the moment...

    PB050554.jpgPB050681.jpg
This is the next one... Sorry for the scale marks on the front glass, I will be sorting this out later today. Again, sorry for the crappy pics....

I'm going to have to do another mail with a couple of the other plants that I need ID's on as it won't allow me to upload any more pics to this mail.

    Thanks again,
    Kim

Nope - L.repens is not BL - some others in the genus are though,so grow away...
If jou do try it in the garden, first cover with a cut of 2l coke bottle to help keep humidity high - wont make it otherwise...

I will take pics of the other plants and post them just now.

GRRRR....:motz: Why cant the lfs's stock real aquatic plants rather than all sorts of junk that doesn't belong in a tank...

    Thanks @Lizid!

@azurekoi, thanks for the info, I will plant it out later or tomorrow.

I have to disagree with you on it not being the fault of the lfs. I feel that if you start doing something, like a pet shop, then it is your responsibility to know or learn as much info as possible about what you are selling. If one person can't do it alone then I feel that they should employ people that have knowledge and exerience in the department that they work in... I would never attempt to breed fish if I had no clue on the subject, so I would go and study it all up before hand, or is this not the way business's work these days?

I'm not ranting, but I feel that it is their responsibility...

As you all can see I'm a total noob when it comes to plants, and I hate being ripped off... But fish? Now that's a whole other thing... ;D

Thanks again. I'll post some new pics later for ID's.

As a vetran of slogging away behind banks and banks of aquariums in LFS's across the country,I can tell you that yes, most LFS owners passion does not lie with a planted aquarium.... In fact I know od one LFS (in a tiny town in the Western Cape) that I would call a plant guru... Partly their fault and partly the presures of running a business...

My experience of the industry however allows me to lie the blame squarely at the feet of the suppliers(not cool Dudes like Altum btw) - only supplying "mixed potted plants to the LFs that is mostly non aquatics....

I have plenty of opinions regarding the whole lfs thing, but that is going off topic and I could carry on for a long time...:amuse:

@Skye01 i got caught by the fern as well i was so chuffed when i got it only to have it start melting on me soon after, its a stream verge or bog plant in its natural enviroment and does get seasonal flooding but doesnt live permanently underwater. it is horrible the way lfs stock non aquatics and its the reason planted tanks have such a bad rep imo

    Not for long!! :p

I think the problem lies with us, to be brutally honest. It's not the LFS's fault entirely. If it wasn't for people that didn't do their homework first, then the whole thing would not be an issue. If you knew what you were looking for, and then went to the stores to look for it, then the non aquatic plants would not get sold, the pet stores would stop ordering them because they would just sit and rot in their tanks.

But i mean, there is also the flip side... If the LFS's knew what they were ordering, there wouldn't be non aquatic plants in the tanks... It is a double edged sword I guess... But these things are soon to start changing. The more people who get into the planted tank hobby, the better for the retailers too. As long as the correct things are put up for sale, then the problem will eventually start phasing out. Isn't this the point of the sponsors on this board?
