So I got two angels 3 days ago, and already I've realized where they fit into the fish world.
    Everyone wants an Iphone.
When you don't have one, everyone else has one and they seem like the best thing since the nokia 3310.
So you do your research and look at deals and wait for your 18 month contract to expire.(like waiting for the sump to cycle)
Then the day comes when you finally pick up your awesome new phone that will change your life.
You get it and wow!!! it's even nicer than you thought. It's has features and details you never even knew about.
Your life is complete and you can't wait to tell a friend that you are now also part of the "Ilete" club.
The thing is... as soon as you have your Iphone, everyone and their friend tells you how the Samsung tab is the way to go, and that Iphones are for sheeple who can't think for themselves, and how it is such a "beginner" move to go for the Iphone.
Well I say balls to that.. These angels ROCK and you can stick your discus/Clown Knife Fish/parrot fish/some-unknown-hard-to-find-weird-fish back in its tank.
Just allow me to enjoy my angels without pointing out how lame they are.
    end rant :)
So of course the lfs clerk said they were angels mix, but could someone ID them for me. I think they are koi angels, but I might be wrong

They are blue kois (see the blushing gills), which, if I remember correctly, is a combination a single Gold Marble gene, with a double dose of stripeless gene. They also have been selected for high orange content, or fed on colour food (like pink flamingoes). Either way, they're stunning fish. They hold their posture well. Just a pity about the bent fins.

I am deeply offended that you would call Angels the same as an Iphone. I am a die-hard samsung fanatic... and to me, the Iphone doesn't even get to be equal to that irritating SNAIL.

    :p

@Varkie. Compare the pectoral fins of your angels to those of @oscar freak's and you'll see what I mean. Not that you should break your head over it, your fish are stunning by all means.

@Wickets are you talking about the fins having a wave like effect in them and not being streamline in one direction?

    Thanks guys :)
I have never had an iPhone, nor do I want one.. it just seemed like the appropriate analogy.
(I'm waiting for my ms surface pro. )
@cheekychops: Love the moss dude :) thanks again
@Wickets: Will those fins ever recover? It doesn't bother me, but it would be cool to know that my iPhone's aerials aren't bent :)
    @oscar freak: nice angels dude!!
So right now its a 250l tank with a 60l sump. I have the following fish in there:
    2 angels
    5 danio
    8 mollies
    6 guppies
    5 endlers
If I add 6 more cories, how much space is left until I'm fully stocked?
I would love to put another angel in there, or maybe some rainbows..
    What do you guys think?

@oupoot. Yes, that's correct, and happens all too often in angels. A wave is not quite as bad as a sharp bend, I cull for that, and would not sell them or use them as breeders. Angel fins need to be majestic and perfect. That's one of the reasons why Altums are in such great demand.

@Varkie. I'm sorry, no; your aerials will stay bent, but not to worry. Perfect angels are hard to find, and I was obviously very critical. Don't break your head, enjoy them, its like having a couple of curls in your hair. Nobody's perfect! In my previous post I said that I cull for defects like that, but that's because I have more angel fry than I can rear, so I only rear the best.

@Wickets - I am not following your comment regarding the "pectoral fin". Are you refering to the antenna/feeler fins underneath the Angels? Those are ventral fins. The pectoral fins are on the side of Angels behind the gill covers.

The reason I ask is because I have 5 Angels and my dominant males ventral fins bend backwards quite sharply but I thought these were like the feelers of Gouramis which in my experience can bend in all sorts of directions. Is this a defect when seen in Angels?

I only figured out recently that ventral fins and pelvic fins are the same thing. Gets confusing in fish when they're right up in front like this; I always expect them to be further back.

Adding to the analogy... You're always waiting for the next, hyped-to-the-heavens iPhone model to come out (Altums!), there are all sorts of rumours about it that never seem to quite materialise, and then you get late adopters like me who figure we'll wait until that super hyped model comes out, and then it never does

@Hawk. Yes, you are right, I meant ventral or pelvic fins, (please forgive, english is not my home "tale") and yes, they can be moved, but they should not be wavy or sharply bent, (ie. a 90 degree bend in one fin), but be symmetrically curved. I am not talking about the natural backwards movement of the fins. It is such a common defect, that I think most people do not consider it a defect anymore. Once you have seen a wild angel, or one of @Dirk's angels, I am sure you will appreciate a normal fin. You can also get bent "needles" on gouramis.

So you're saying my iPhones come from the bad part of china, where they use knock-off parts :)
Still love em.. in fact before you told me my angels probably grew up in a trailer listening to Billy Ray Cyrus, I kinda liked the wavy ventral fins, and still do.
But that's just me. As a 3d artist, I have to always add imperfections to my work to make it look real.
After a while you start to appreciate the imperfections of life and realize that it enhances beauty, not detract from it.
So about my tank guys... how far am I from full load?
