So my angels have been acting strange lately. A bit of bickering, a bit of chasing etc. Then, I got home to this today :D

Thanks, quite a few of the eggs have gone white, which makes me think that the male was too busy chasing other fish away and didn't bother fertilizing all of the eggs.

And just as fast as they were laid, they were eaten by the parents. Mostly unfertalized

At least you know they are capable, and are a breeding pair.
It will probably take them a few tries to gt things right.

You could add some slate in the tank for them to spawn on, and once the eggs have turned colour you could remove the slate and raise the fry artificially, without assistance from the parents.

Sorry it didnt work out this time..
But as @Pezulu said at least you know it's a breeding pair
It's not often that they or many other cichlids get it right first time
They young and also need to learn to get their act together
Unfortunatly it is also always much more difficult when they stressed from having to protect the eggs all the time
If you really serious in wanting them to breed, if possible try to separate them

I was thinking of putting them in a 2 foot bare bottom tank with some plants and a sponge filter. Thoughts?

Although I have never bred angels myself, those that I have spoken to that have, say they prefer a flat stone, tile or piece of slate to spawn on.
A bare bottom tank is simply easier to keep clean once you start feeding the fry.
Anything in the tank will have to be either moved around, or removed before cleaning.

I agree and agree with @Pezulu
A flat slate or I'm sure I have also seen those cones used for breeding discus
Good luck with the next round

Add slanted pieces of slate as stated. Also be prepared to wait a few weeks for them to breed in the new tank as they get used to the new environment. Also add a visual barrier in the center of the tank. My angels normally chase each other around the tank a few days before they lay eggs. They only stop this when on disappears for the others sight. Both the male and female does this.
