I recently added a few more fish to my "stable", 3 of them Angels. It seems, however, that 1/some/all (?) of my Zebra Danios have taken a liking to nipping the Angels fins. I have read up on this and it seems Angels & Danios don't really make good bed-fellows. I have already increased the Danio numbers from 4 to 9 in an attempt to disperse the 'aggression', but I think that the size difference between the Danios (4 medium, 5 small) is diminishing the effect of the quantity (the big guys don't really take the little guys seriously, or something).

My Tiger Barbs, despite the size differences, are quite happy leaving everyone else alone (after the initial investigations).

Any suggestions as to the best way forward? Get rid of the Danios? Get more Danios? Don't really want to get rid of the Angels (they're so pretty!).

Bring the danios to me, my angel will sort them out :) and when they have manners you can collect the sceletons again :)

I would rather get rid of the danios if I were you.

I think I might just move the 4 larger Danios...the smaller ones just hide out a little. I'm sure my Angels are also thinking: "That's the spirit guys. Keep it up. Give us a year and you'll all regret this fin-biting stuff! You all look like real tasty morsels!"

Try and see what they do if you move them. I did not think my angel could eat a guppy as big as he did :)

If you're going to get rid of those Danio, give me a call. I can't buy anything smaller than adult Danio as my JD enjoys late nite snacks, but the adults seem to do fine, and look so nice!

He he he ... I still have that image in my head. One of the funniest pics I've seen in a while! I don't know if the Danios are adult yet. I'll guesstimate their length this evening.

Au Contaire, the Danio is the one slowly disappearing down Jack's throat... ;-) I think at that time, he was hoping that I DO see him!

So it seems the tiger barbs do want some of the fin biting action. The Angels are very wary though...they watch the others VERY carefully. Will have to watch out for any damage...

So, I'm returning the Angels today - swapping them out for some other fish. Any suggestions? Tank mates are 1x Rainbow Shark, 9x Zebra Danios, 7x Tiger Barbs. I need something that will live in peace and survive with the existing lot, yet add a bit of colour. I have Neons in mind, butmaybe you guys & gals have some other suggestions?

They look good, but I read they need a well planted tank? I have a few newly planted Vallis plants, some Java Moss, & 2 Java ferns, but my tank is far from being "well planted".

I've seen them doing just fine in a tank where the only "plants" was the algae forming around the airline tube... I'm sure they'll enjoy a well planted tank, as I would enjoy living in a double storey villa in Northcliff, but I'm doing just fine in my flat at the moment ;-)
