I've noticed a very strange occurance last night while watching and admiring my tank.... (I'll post pics as soon as Photobucket gets online again)

I noticed one of my gouramis go into like a catatonic state whereby it floats in the water as if its dead for around 30 seconds... my angels spot this and immdiately pounce on it until snaps out of that state and resumes swimming as if nothing happened... confused the angels leave the gourami alone until and hour later it happens all over again...

Gourami eats well and swims normally in between these occurances... this never happens with the other gourami....

(it also just shows how oppotunistic the "angels" are...

It's not maybe a male / female pair gourami's you have there? When they breed the male would squeeze the female to get the eggs out and then she is paralyzed for a few seconds, just floating around at the top. Or has this been going on for a while?

yes in fact they are a male/female pair... she does not look bloated in any way though and they are quiet young still...

its the gourami closest to the glass on the right hand side of the tank next to the rock, male is more towards the middle...

hmmmm.... I hope its not my water change routine... because of having quite a few fish in there... I change every 5 days... basically i put 10% the recommended dose into an empty bucket, fill with a mixture of hot and cold tap water to get close to 26 degrees, then agaitate the water for about 30 minutes with either a small jug or wooden spoon,,, then slowy start topping up...

Feeding is normal TetraMin flakes for tropical fish (no overfeeding as my water is very clear even when gravel-vac'ing)... now and again, blood worms, brine shrimp and lobster eggs.
