This pair of angels lost their eggs to snails eating them, the next day one of the guppies had fry and the angels immediately started herding them into a scool and chased any fish that came near them. Looks like its not just mammals that does this.[IMG]

@Lanner have you seen this before? I never knew fish would be surrogate parents to a different species.

    Interesting
Wonder if this could be adapted for more difficult to breed cichlids
Say you had a pair of rare species but bad parents. Perhaps swap the eggs with a proven pair of Angels and let them take over.

Could be an interesting experiment. Anyone up for the challenge. It might just become general practice in years to come if it proves to work lol.

"Here you can see a pair of angel fish in the aquarium. The female lays her eggs on a suitable surface and the male makes runs to fertilise them.....unfortunately the brood is lost due to mollusks. The pair, eager as always adopts the fry of a nearby guppy spawn caring for them as their own. This is not a common sight to be hold but very rare for one species to take care of the young of another. Truly remarkable." - David Attenborough circa 2019.

As a matter of fact I have seen it before from the same pair of angels, I removed their eggs to raise them myself since the fry wouldnt survive in a community tank and I havnt had angel fry in ages.
Fast forward to the next day they were protectig kribensis fry wich I didnt even know were in the tank.
The strange thing about that was they were helping the krib pair keep other fish at bay and never tried taking the fry away from them.
Needless to say the survival rate on that batch of kribs were off the charts.
