    Hey guys,

My Angels recently laid eggs and after a few attempts of eating the eggs I decided to try and artificially raise them. They laid on Sunday. The eggs seem to be past the wriggler phase as they have well defined eyes and you can see the fins but not free-swimming yet. What I noticed is that even though I haven't begun feeding yet there bellies look strangely fat. It seems as though the sack is gone but they are remaining large and fat. Can't see what this could be?

Currently running the tank at 27C.
    Doing 25% water change daily.
    Running a small sponge filter.
    It's a 40L.

Please help with the large belly situation.

    Thanks.

Sorry, can't help with your large belly problem :p but 25% daily water changes is too much. You shouldn't need to do more than about 10% a day (Just siphon off any junk and uneaten food and then top up) and then do a 25% weekly WC. Changing the water conditions that much on a daily basis could cause other health issues. If you search the forum, you can find some more info - I definitely remember Dirk mentioning big daily WC causing issues with the gill covers on some fry.

If the fry are not free swimming, they are actually still wrigglers. . . And therefore cant eat and consume food.
The bellies are still unused yolk sacks.

Leave them to just develop as they should. The water changes you have done now could, as Killerbunny has pointed out, have affected these fry negatively. But its done now, nothing you can do about it but wait and see if they are ok.

Alright, thanks guys. Noticed today they are a lot more "active" and swimming along the bottom of the tank. Should be free swimming soon.

Will change the water changes to 10% a day.

    Thanks.

This is how an early wriggler looks like:

And this is wrigglers about a day or two from free-swimming:

    Awesome!

So yesterday they became free swimmers and there's just hundreds all around the tank.

Haven't got any good BBS at the moment as funds are low and basically I don't have any spare money right now.. Currently raising them on some egg yolk one time a day, a mixture of frozen brine shrimp and blood worms and a powdered form of tetra flakes and tetra min granules.. Not really what I wanted but just going to improvise with this batch.

Got some pics of the fry. Unfortunately as soon as I turned off the sponge filter they stopped schooling and just went to the bottom and swam there.

Yea, only if I had the money to buy and raise BBS for my fry - it would be so much better and more sufficient.

Hello @furcifer and welcome. Start you own introducrion thread and update you location. Atlum angels is very difficult to breed. And i dont think somebody in RSA have done it or is doing it.

Just to clarify - No they aren't Altums.

@HennieRoux Originally I was seeing a few of the late wrigglers with heavily blown of stomachs, but since they I have only been able to remove 2 blown up ones. Can't find the rest?
