I have always been facinated with angelfish. In my 20 plus years of fishkeeping I cant recall a time where I did'nt have some no matter if I was into cichlids livebearer or whatever flavour of the year, the angels were always there.
Now I need a advice from my forum friends, Im about to take the plunge and actually purchase a bunce of the more rare and some wild strains of angels anyone here kept anything like that before?
Im contemplating getting 2 or more of the following species.
    Super red
    Smoke paraiba
    Black pinoy
    Blue pinoy
    Rio Xingu
    Manacapuro
Any advice or stories about your experience with these will be wellcome.
    Regards Jan

The paraiba and pinoy come in some nice colours
Ken Kennedy in the Philippines is breeding some stunning ones. Have a look on google

Very difficult to come by, even in the uk.

Price is not the object here it is what I want and the pleasure I get from my fish far outweighs cost. For some it is discus or rare plecos this is my thing, I might even get some extra and offer them here on the forum since they are so rare.
Personally Im leaning towards some f2 wild strains.

Also always had Angels. Fascinated with them. Can't wait for the pics as there are not a lot of them on the internet. However, The gamble you facing are the sex if you only going to take 2 of each. Keep us updated!

All usually the same species, which is scalare. Altums may also be available

What i know (never kept angels) is that they like a deep tank, 40cm or more and that wild caught angels are VERY sensitive

    Hope it helps :)

True Altums have a reputation for being more difficult than Discus.

I have had wild caught scalare and they were quite tough.
In fact, they were more robust than some tank bred varieties I have kept....or tried to keep.

What sized tank could accommodate 3angels and could they all be the same gender or not?

The problem with just 3 Angels, is if you have a male and a female, they will pair up and hammer and possibly kill the 3rd one.

    I would have either 2 , or a group of 5 or 6.
If you have a pair, I wouldn't go smaller then 100L
And 250L for the bigger group.
