    Hi , Angel fish is looking like she is dying. this has gone on for 9 days now, the ph was to high (my test kit was not working properly) but it is down to the correct level. she is still struggling to swim properly and spends a lot of time lying on the bottom of the tank. I am trying to make sure she gets food in everyday but she seems to swim past it all the time. Is there anything I can do for her, anything I can add to the water ??? The other angel fish and other fish in the tank are all ok.

    @CarolMc,

    Hard to tell what the problem is without a photo.
    At this stage, it may be too late to help the fish.

    One of those things unfortunately.

    You can put in a hospital tank if you have one, try salt and high heat, but afraid it doesn't sound good. Humane way to euthanize is to add 25 drops of clove oil to 1 liter of water, leave her in it for an hour.

    Hope your angel recovers, but these things happen. Regarding ph, try to change it gradually if you have to. Fish are affected negatively by rapid changes rather than ph that is outside of their ideal range. Also, wanting to feed ailing fish heavily is a natural reaction. Unfortunately this usually overloads what the biological filtration in you tank can handle, and can cause an ammonia spike which will stress an ailing fish pretty badly. Good luck!

    okay probably a bad question but don't want to go and open a thread. most humane is clove oil. wont smacking it be easier or more humane

    Yes, chopping its head off with an axe, slitting its throat with a sharp knife, or bludgeoning to to death with a hammer will work, but not everyone is that way inclined, some people are fond of their pets and want to see it pass without the trauma of these methods. Clove oil work as a anaesthetic puts the fish to sleep, the high dose ultimately kills it without pain, and the blood & trauma of processes described. There are other products you can get from your vet that will do the same.
    Kind of when you get your dog euthanised, you go to the vet, get it injected, not many people shoot it in head in the back yard anymore.
