    I had these two who spawned in a community tank Yesterday morning on top of the submersible filter...... (the eggs just look white cause of the angle)...

    [IMG]

    Then... with all eggs looking fine... I transferred them to a hatching tank... and... at the end of the day... Some turned white... which I assumed to be the infertile eggs.... (surely if the eggs are just infertile... they would turn white at the same time).....

    [IMG]

    THEN.... At the end of the day... today.... The photo below shows that substantially more eggs turned white.....

    NOW!!!... my question.... Did the eggs that turned white later on die??.... or... are they also just infertile eggs which turned white later on... AND..... Would the use of methylene Blue in the hatching tank... restrict the number of eggs turning white.... ??.....

    As far as I know, methylene is to prevent fungus which is not present on the eggs. Are you asking if there may be a parasite killing the eggs, that methylene could take care of? I'd be interested to hear about this, as I've never seen it mentioned in any literature that I've read. All that I've ever read is white eggs= infertile eggs. I have three pairs of spawning Angels and the amount of white eggs varies considerably between them. One thing is the same though, 75% of the eggs that turn white do so on day 2-3.
    Sorry.. I know I didn't help, just adding my experience. Will follow with interest

    Edit: here's my current batch at 24 hours.

    Methylene blue is used to prevent fungus as said. If eggs are turning white, it could be infertile or the egg is dying due to lack of oxygen. If the eggs are already 2 days old and you have not removed the dead eggs. Fungus will occur . Reactive treatment does not generally work with eggs. Hopefully, you can still get some wrigglers out tomorrow.

    There are approximately around 70 eggs still looking "normal"... so ... just maybe there will be wrigglers tomorrow... although... the fungus growth is starting to spread already... Thanks for the advice so far... I will now move the Parents to a tank of their own... to see if they are perhaps caring enough... to rear the fry on their own... Hopefully this removing their eggs in the first spawn will not affect their parental instincts in future broods.....

    I've moved my parents around a few times, on their own and with other Angels, yet the same always paired up and spawned again.

    @Cheetah,
    in my experience, it's the unfertilised eggs that attract a fungus first.
    i guess if there is nothing living in the organic material, that will attract the fungus?

    As a breeder, I try remove the "white" eggs as quickly as possible.
