    Hi guys

Over the last couple of days, I have noticed my Ancistrus tails seem to have been nipped. The fish I have in my tank are:

    6 Peppered cories
    7 cardinals
    2 ancistrus
    1 otocinclus
    2 rams

Any ideas what could be happening? It's happened to both my ancistrus, but the rest of their fins are fine. No other fish has any signs of being nipped, but the ancistrus seem to chase each other a lot...

    Thanks in advance
    Luke

It is the Ancistrus vs Ancistrus situation, normally happens when they are fighting over territory or dominance in tank.

I always try to keep a male and female together, resulting in less fin nipping.

    Thanks, Toy

I bought the fish when they were tiny. Maybe I should try and swap one out for a male. They are both females. Otherwise just get a whole lot of otos and keep one ancistrus?

I also have a pair in my 4 ft Goldies tank, you should see how the plecos and the goldfish go for the pleco wavers, its like watching a rugby match xD

My 3 ft tropical tank has 7 cories, 2 loaches and 3 gobies, which makes keeping a small pleco properly fed, difficult at times.

Is this not early onset of fin rot?

No signs of fin rot on any of the other fish
, and it is only their tails. One day, normal tail, next day, tails look like this.

Some fish may not show signs of fin rot. I've had tank where 2 out of 10 fish showed signs. Caught it early and it was gone.
Just keep that in mind. Could definitely be something else.
