I just got one yesterday, and added him last night using the airline drip method and since Jack was sort of asleep, he coudn't be bothered. Mind you, I found out why the pH is so high... Bloody rocks... :(

Anyhoo, Was hoping to land a thread with cool facts like feeding and so on, but looks like I'll have to be the pioneer!

So, I use Hikari Cichlid Gold sinking pellets. Will he eat the uneaten food, or do I need to chuck in algae wafers every now and then?

I sure hope so... Why? Do they require sand?

They "prefer" finer gravels because it damages their mouths. Yours looks fine though, nice and smooth. This is what I have read somewhere anyway.

Hmmm... The gravel I'm using is polished river gravel that it produced as a byproduct from diamond mines. The stones vary in color and type, but are all slightly polished due to the refining process. I hope she'll be fine with them... She does seem to be doing very well!

never had a problem witht the substrate , anyway they spend most of the time on rocks, glass, leaves and wherever they can find algae, don't forget to give them baby marrow several times a week..

Babymarrow? Serious? Hark hark hark... I'll be sure to do that! I bought algae wafers for her and chuck one of those in every now and then which she seems to like. I am surprised at how she stands up to Jack! If he comes near her hideout, she wacks him around until he leaves!

Check out my previous "Pleco Party' post/thread and pictures under breeding, as regards the delights of baby marrow...

Whoa! They really seem to like that marrow! I'll be sure to pick some up... I think I should get a male as well. Not that I'm into breeding, but I like the LONG nose bristles! Your long finned male looks amazing by the way!
