From reading up on the interwebs, it seems quite a common occurance that Ancistrus eat the leaves of Amazon Swords, and in particular the broad leaf varieties, like the Ozelot Green and Red.

It has become such a problem in one of my tanks, that I removed all the Ozelot Green and Ozelot Reds, and transplanted them into tanks that don't have any Ancistrus in them. The tank has 2 large pieces of driftwood in it, one of which is quite old, and the Ancistrus love hiding in the nooks and crannies of the wood.

The Ancistrus share the tank with Dwarf Neon Rainbows, Emerald Rasbora and some Sterbai Corydora, and share much of the same food.
The staple diet for all the fish is Tetra Discus granules ground freshly over the tank twice a day.
Twice a week meaty foods (frozen bloodworm, Artemia and Daphnia) are given as well.

Would the introduction of additional vegetable food help with the Ancistrus eating Amazon Swords?
Perhaps daily inclusion of cucumber, baby marrow or similar?

    Possibly. Maybe worth a try?
But I have found that once a fish develops a habit of doing something, it's very difficult to "get" it to stop.

    Hello Pezulu,

Have also heard that ancistrus do eat amazons. I have several several ancistrus in my tanks with amazon swords and other plants. Never had an issue with them eating the plants. I feed mine Tetra Discus, algae wafers and baby marrow. Would highly recommend giving them greens as well.

Do you feed them blanched, or raw?
