    hey guys and gals

so the other day i was browsing and a tempting idea came to mind... yes, it was a another fish tank, baisicly im asking you opinion on this plan.

dimentions: 40cmx40cmx55cm - thats just under a hundred liters.

it would be (in theory) a planted tank but not completly filled up with plants, you know a little patch of substrate here and there. obiviously i thought of the stocking first, it is as follows.
    a school of harlequin rosboras
    a few cory cats
    a pair ram cichlids
    a zebra pleco

the idea is rather enchnting, confirming it would work would be necessary though.

Of those 3 dimensions, which is which?
    I'm assuming it's 55cm high?

MTS is well and kicking I see.

Never had a zebra pleco but I gathered from another thread that they are potentially shy and nocturnal, need loads of hiding space. don't eat wood / plants and should not be kept with other bottom dwellers due to feeding competition. They do need a well planted tank with loads of oxygen. I am not sure the cory + zebra pleco is a hot plot in such a small tank.

Harlequin Rasbora is a shoaling fish so a min of 6 or 7 (I like odd numbers in a shoal).

More important - what filtration, lighting and substrate are you planning to use? I would start it small - do the planting etc .. then add a good amount of Rasbora's let them settle in etc. Then build the tank inhabitants from that.

Keep us posted on the plan.

hey guys thanks for the replies, yes, i do plan to keep a nice shoal of rosboras, just havent decided of the number yet. otherwise i guess i do still have to plan the technical stuff. i dont know what ill use for lighting, my lfs only stocks one brand, i cant remember the name but its obiviously made in china. i could however pop into jhb and get some t5s or whatever. for a filter i will probbably go for a nice strong aqua clear or two, ive never really tried much else. substrate is next i guess, well... i have no idea! im a total newbie to plants, so advice here will be appreiciated, im doing a lot of reasearch on planted tanks though, substrate, light and co2 seem the most important. and yes i seem to have a serious case of MTS, the amounts of tanks in thhe house are rapidly rising. oh by the way dimentions are 55L x 40w x 40h. i dont know to much about zebra plecos, most of the info i can find is not that detailed and rather repetitive, i dont mind going without the corries, im not such a big fan but everyone seems to love them so i thought ide give it a go, im really after more minimalistic stocking, but theres always another fish that you feel you "must have". f fish im with you on the odd numbers. thanks for the advice everybody! also im cossidering changing the dimentions (theres nothing here yet) to 80cm long X 50cm high X 50cm wide. then theres more space, but it would also mean putting the tank on hold for a bit! :sad2: ... this is perhaps not as bad as it sounds, i should probbably get over my current case of MTS before spending even more money ... :wondering: frshwater seems cheap as hell now that im taking a break from marine, but still freshwater is not free either.
that certainly does not mean i will enjoy putting this lovely idea :)love:) on hold! though it looks like that is what is going to happen:sad2::cry:

sorry, my post isnt really in proper order.

Now that is a nice size - and you can still move it around since it is only +- 40kg empty. If you add a 50 litter sump then you could have a nice 250l - bigger water body is easier to keep stable even for planted tanks.

But I would think about stretching is to a standard 3ft length - then you can use a normal 3ft tank as the sump (ah bottom breeding tank)

    Oh, now I get it.
I thought you were talking about a deep cube...

And about the Harlequins, they get bigger than what you'd expect, and they kind of school in a 3ft at adult size, but they really do need a bigger tank if you want to appreciate them. Rather go for a nano species if you're building a smaller tank length-wise.

mmmm have never seen them big, will consider. otherwise well dimentions look like theyre going to be 90cm, 50cm, 50cm, so yes a 3ft. but like i said project will be on hold for a bit. the other option is that somebody might want me to do a planted tank for them, and then i probbably wouldent get one myself to, just lots of visiting, but nothing is confirmed.
