An exersise in madness rebuilding a new tank for my Jardini Arowana

Well so far after adding the orca bio cubes. All is well , The bio cubes only start to work at 10 days and have only shown a change in color from white to slightly pink to light brown .since adding them thou the tank water has a mildly sulphur s phosphate smell , almost like the seachem prime smell that had me a bit worried but All my levels are still 0 or as close to 0 as distinguishable with the color tests .was worried my test kit not lekker so took a sample of the tanks water to Lfs and got the same results. So any ideas .?

 

Hehe i dont think i will take that chance more than 5000 rand worth of fish in there

 

@Stormbringer, it is a worry, but if i were to go by smell, i'd never have used the prime, but so far the prime is the best thing siince sliced bread for me..

i think if there were any bad side effects to using this, chances are the masa guys would have felt the effects a long time ago..

 

Both sets of water tests were fine so I'm happy to leave it as is and keep monitoring the levels

 

hey storm any news on catching a few Tiger barbs for me bud?

 

so far that is a good sign, lets see how it goes, perhaps it will clear up in a few days..

 

Sorry bud , tried on the weekend , when they see the net they hide in the media bed and I'm not gonna stir it all up now, looks like the tiger barbs are in the sump for good .

 

Yup. , the water looks fantastic clear as can be. I can watch tv thru it with almost no change in color , tests fantastic and the fish look great , so time will tell

 

so far all the signs are very positive

seeing that this is a bit of an expensive product, its something worth looking into especially if for example you going on holiday for a while, you could use an auto feeder for food and with these orca cubes you wouldnt need to worry about water changes....

Thanks . Well tank has changed a bit since the vid .all the plants were ripped out so I added 2 plants I have growing by my pond don't know what they are but they grow at all the marsh areas around here so let's see how long they stay in .
And as a nice little surprise this morning the 12000 lph circ pump stopped working .didnt trip the db board but still gave me a nice little shock to say good morning so I removed it

 

thanks they are growing like mad .I think it because the are constantly( eating ) around the orca bio cubes bag .I cant explain why but mabe its the bio mass waste from the cubes that the are feasting on . dont know just guessing ??

 

I keep going to the beginning of this thread. I cannot believe this tank is only 2 x 1.5m. It looks HUGE! I think I need to show my wife and then start hinting :amuse:

 

thats the idea IM all ready hinting 2.5m X 2m X 1M , my wife seems to have given up on saying no. but im still working on the bank manager lolz

ya I WISH..... I am the bank manager and have arguments with myself daily, the temptation is so big just to take the CC and go on a fishy shopping spree.
ILL stick to the idea of... if you cant pay for it in cash you cant do it , Thats one of the things that drive me to work even harder.
