hey storm, can you maybe donate a couple of your tiger barbs I lost 25 fish in one week, my municipality dosed the chlorine 200% and it killed lots of my fish I do use prime to dechlor the water.

It also pushed my ph up to 8.2

If you can it will be a huge joy in my life:nuts:

Well when I tested my water yesterday at the lfs it was 3.0 they tested it with those 6 - 1 strips and it should be zero, will definitely start ageing my water for wc.

Mmmm mmmmm. ...... Pondering I know I'm greedy keeping them in the sump where I only see them once a day but I do like them so Much..... I'm back Friday and ill see how many I can catch for you .they hide in the media so I don't think I'll ever get them all out of there but maybe a few I can do ......

As to my tank I have added two 600 lph pumps into the sump from return chamber To overflow entry chamber And getting great flow in the sump and crystal clear water ...love it

once heard if you have a 30cm drop of water into the bucket it is enough air-ration to get all the chlorine out done this for year, but what i have just red now i am worried

Yikes! Someone wrote a warning for people in Pretoria that the water was brown in some places and that the municipalities would probably up the chlorine levels once people start complaining :(
    Sorry about your loss!

I'm looking at getting an RO unit, nice test kit and a JoJo tank for WCs. Tired of stressing about my fish every time I do a WC (I also use Prime, but I'm never sure how much Cl is in my tap water)

this is a real scary thought.. i was having a chat with someone now the other day and came up with the conclusion that most fish losses tend to happen after a water change, when you would expect the water to be of better quality. it seems that what they put in the water is often the cause of many unexplained fish losses. sorry for the slight hijack @Stormbringer

Yes this is really scary dude, that is why I will be leaving my Seachem Matrix Carbon in my tank to get rid of all the stuff we got in our water in gauteng , I believe Cape Town area water quality is number 1 in the country.

Seachem prime I do double the recomended dose and have been for a while now to no ill effect.adding water to me is the scariest part of keeping fish
getting a bit costly now thou as I add for top ups from evaporation thats close to 10%( 100l +- ) a week if its cold at night and warm in the day and 20% water change on sundays about 200l .once the system is more mature thou i will start stretching the water change intervilles based on mesurements i think I should manage a water change 2 a month ...but the tests will tell.

just as qusetion if you were to have lets say 1000l of matrix etc and 1000l of water with a low or consistent waste from your fish and only doing top ups for evapaoration would water changes be required ?

i dont know. probably would have to do tests on the water to check if the nitrates and ammonia levels rise. i wondered because i know you would be very carefull of your waterchanges because of your jardini

true I am and spend at least an hour a day checking water quality or signs of distress on any of the fish .....SO for all the koi keepers out there do you do water changes on your koi ponds with show fish in ??? if your pond or tank is a closed level system can the plants , media not balance out the need for water changes ??
