As many of you are aware from my earliest posts, I have an ongoing battle with snails.

I have more or less accepted their presence and realised that some snails in a tank may even be beneficial, up to a point.

Unfortunately, these little beasties seem to like living in my tanks, and are taking over.

I don't like using toxins to try and get rid of them, so I rely on trapping, and picking them out by hand.

I've been doing this intensely at water change, and dumping the critters into the bucket of waste water before emptying it out in the garden.

    Okay so far? Cool.

Well, 'She Who Must be Obeyed' has accepted that I empty old tank water in the garden, because her plants grow better there.

Unfortunately, she caught me red-handed, dumping the snails out with the water. As would be expected, the went off pop, and threw a major floermoer. It cost me some major grovelling and explaining that these were AQUATIC snails, and wouldn't eat her plants, 'cos they can't survive out of water.

Somewhat mollified, she left me to my business, muttering something along the lines of '... if I find ONE of those creatures eating my plants, you're going to be feeding on home-grown escargot for the rest of your life!'

Eish! Please tell me I'm right and that I didn't inadvertently lie to her. Its bad enough having to do roll-call before eating, when we have fish and chips on the menu!

@Noodle i think you are ok. They have to stay moist to survive. They will live for a while outside but then die due to the heat or becoming food for some other creature. RegardsReinhard

They'll dry out, and won't last very long out of water.

lol, John I really hope I havent contracted your snail parade :)

    So far so good though.

Sidenote, why is it that we have to do so much of grovelling just to keep a few fish at home ?:p

Thanks guys, I hope we're right! Otherwise, you have a standing invitation to dinner!

So do I Bru. So do I, but I did warn you of the possibility.

I really envy you with a wife that shares your interest in fish.

Just tell her you like your snails with some garlic butter and bread, lol!!! Don't worry about them surviving the ordeal in the garden unless you have a fountain or koi pond close by, other wise you can go to bed with a clean mind and have a good night's rest!!!

What a cruel way to end your life.... shrivvelling up slowly in some hot, dry desert we call a garden.

Rather squish them and end them quick and painlessly.

    Sies dude.
