Hi all. I have an on going problem of a furry type of dark green algae in my planted tank. I have tried different remedies to no avail. The roots of my plants growing on the drift wood are totally covered in a blanket of the algae. My tank is otherwise very healthy. 280 litre; PH 6.5; 26c. Can anyone recommend anything that may help? Thanks.

Siamese algae eaters love black beard algae. You could keep 2 in a tank of your size. Just be 100% sure that they're Siamese algae eaters and not Chinese or golden or anything else. Maybe you can post a pic of your tank and filter so that we can indent iffy any obvious problems?

It's a Boyu with normal Boyu pump and filter. I have charcoal in the one side of the filter.

I have tried Flourish Exel. After reading Broder's reply, I think I have a found a problem with my pump. It is not circulating as strongly as before and I now realise that my filters have been quite clean lately so filtration is not as efficient as it should be. I am going to run a new pump and see if it helps. I will continue with the Exel. The supplier I use sold me 2 golden coloured algae eaters. They are very busy eating the algse and I am sure that once the pump is running properly they might cope a bit better. I have a Bristle Nose but she is so lazy!

Thanks so much. I won't buy Chinese ones.... I have heard before that they are aggresive. Don't need that in my tank. It's peaceful!

Suits my fish. They are all doing famously and have done for months now. Plants doing well and even flowering. Besides the algae I have no problems.
