So I set up my first PFP tank and today I noticed one little trumpet snail on a piece of wood. Worse though, is that there is now some sort of algae growing on the wood? Looks hairy, really small and dark dark black/green. Will post a pic if I find a camera strong enough.
How can I get rid of it?

    Regards
    Firefly

sounds like BBA (Black beard algae)?

occurs when you have strong lights and a lack of CO2.. OR an imbalance of CO2 in the water..

what u can do is lessen your lighting period and add some pressurised CO2 / seachem excel..

also for very bad areas, use a syringe fill with Seachem excel and squirt it on the problem area..

but long term, u should consider getting CO2? or lessen the intensity of ur lights..

its a sad sight.. i had it b4 and its a mission to get rid of..

but also, siamese algae eaters are about the only algae eaters that eat this kinda algae.. also they look similar to flying foxes so beware..

but wait, what are the specs of your tank? lights over ur tank? filter? tank dimention? plants? substrate? co2 or not?

also, i forgot to add that BBA appears when there is very slow / no flow in the affected area..

Rosy Barbs, Golden Barbs and SAE's will eat BBA - IF they're not being fed the usual aquarium foods which if they are they wont bother much with the BBA.

Stiphodon gobies do well to chomp down BBA.

in my experiences, SAE's eat BBA even if well fed.. so they quite a good bet.. just pretty rare to find in the stores.. they dont have them often.. and they can be easily confused..
