I have heard about a gravel siphon that is battery operated or somthin that uses air to suck the gunk/poo from the gravel, without needing to remove water.

Now, i'm trying to wrap my mind around the idea, but can't quite figure out how it would work, where does the poop etc go then?

Plus, second half o' question, would anyone have an idea to input on how one might be built?

I'd be great to to a gravel vac without having to necessitate a waterchange each vac time, it'd be an interesting make, possibly using an air pump to add the air and some long tubing, if it were possible to diy it?

ANyone got half an idea to bounce around?

Its not possible to do a waterless gravel vacuum. How would the air pass through as well as solid waste but the water would not? The best I can think of would be something that has a filter on it and circulates the water through the filter and back into the tank - basically an aquarium filter.

My thoughts too, most likely a pump of sorts.

I have a very old one that uses an airline to draw water up then dump it through a little filter bag.

Eish.. this thread is 10 years old!!!

Nothing new has come up in 10 years.. I suspect its because you cant keep you tank alive and well without its routine water changes soa water less gravel vac is not of much use... or maybe Im wrong..

Ok... I understand your DIY brain trying to do something but (no offense meant) why would you want to gravel vac with a bag and not taking water out.. ad then still having to do a water change.. That's two jobs instead of "killing two birds with one stone"?

The easiest and safe way to remove the fry from the tank is still to siphon them out with an air pipe that is a little wider than commonly used for an air stone
Takes a few seconds and the fry don't feel it at all
