Air Pump

Hi Guys,

I have an air pump that pumps into 2 airstones under my gravil. I turn it off whenever I go out because the damn tubing comes off the one-way-valve every few days.

I've taped everything tight and together now, and also have the airpump above the tank in the unlikely event that the tubing does come loose, at least it won't syphon my tank dry.

How long should I run the air pump p/day? Should I leave it on all day?

Bearing in mind I don't have live plants (yet!), the only oxygen creation I have in the tank during the day is the water being poured back into the tank from the filter above. Some are of the opinion that air pumps do not in fact aerate the tank at all, but that the breaking of the water tension on the surface is what aerates the tank.

Your views?

 

Hi Zoom - Its a mixture the breaking of the water tension and the agitation of the surface water is what does it - The air exchange is at the surface of the tank..

 

leave the airpump on, why not? u can use smal cable ties on the connections on the air hose.
