    Well,

About a month ago I inherited an Agassizi Alenque pair (and a few other fish) from Sailing Derrick, and I had them in one of my breeding cubes, but this was not the cube I had in mind for them, it was just that the bag capsized whilst I was floating it and released ALL the occupants into this tank!

So, I moved them a few days back into their new home once it was ready for them, and low and behold 3 days later I have eggs!! Bright Orange eggs!! I only noticed them today as I went to feed as the female was hanging around and kinda looked a bit Yellow! So I thought Hmmmm....

Got a torch and looked inside the flowerpot, and sure enough!! Eggs!!

I had noticed the female turn yellow for one day in the other tank, but then she went back to normal colour!

So, now we have the waiting game to see if they hatch, or get eaten, or go moldy, etc!!

    Wish me luck!!

I'll try and get some pics!!

    Cheers
    G!

    Thanks guys!!

@Vis, yer, this is the Male who has the cloudy eyes, so hopefully its nothing contagious!! As the Prof said, its most likely damage from transportation!

Looked yesterday and she appears to have eaten roughly half the eggs! But hopefully they'll learn!

ok, Checked today and all eggs are officially gone!!

I'm not too worried tho! The fact that they spawned at all is an encouragement!! maybe next time??

G what would happen if you just remove the eggs and put them in a different tank?

They could be removed, as long as the eggs can be fanned, but part of the wonder of dwarfs, and for that matter any cichlid, is that they are excellent parents, and will care for their fry exceptionally well! Removing the eggs will remove their natural instinct to parent, so would mean I'd have to remove eggs everytime!

This lack of parenting, or egg eating, is a side effect of being tank bred in Asia, where they take the parents away from the fry at a very young age, so the parents 'forget' their parenting skills!

Eventually they will learn that eating their eggs means no children, and so will relearn their parenting instincts! Hopefully!! It doesn't always work out like this though!! Sometimes the female will learn not to eat the eggs, but once they are free swimming, they will get eaten by the male who may be more stubborn to learn!!

Its a process! One that takes time, but is worth it in the end!!

    Regards
    G!

    Hey Linx!!

Yer, Apistos are pretty awesome fish!! I have to admit though that I am very new to Apistos, but boy did the bug hit hard!!

I bought my apistos with the direct intention of breeding, hence those tanks in my back room which you saw when you came by, and so far I seem to be doing something right!! Out of three pairs of fish I've had 2 lots of fry and two furhter lots of eggs!! Shame that those eggs were all eaten, but as I say, just having a pair that will breed with each other is an encouragement!!

Now the hard part is raising the fry (from my Red Gold pair and Caca's)!!

    Wish me luck!!

    Cheers
    G!
