Has anybody had success breading these fish. I can't imagine it being the same as Cardinals? (http://www.tropicalaquarium.co.za/showthread.php?p=39629#post39629) pH & full moon?

Also what is the trigger to get these guys spawning?

I have 4 females & 2 males. All the females appear to have well rounded bellies, which I would think means they are carrying eggs. I don't think I want to rear any young, I just want to induce spawning.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks Guys.

Sorry, I don't mean to be picky, but what would be the point of spawning? Would it not be cruel to induce spawning, but not raise the fry?

    Regards
    G!

In this case, it is a good example to type in: congo tetras , into Google. There are interesting information regarding, keeping and breeding them. There is even a video of a pair spawning in a busy community tank!

I've had some breed in a community tank, moved them to a breeding tank and tried everything and they wouldn't breed for me. I had a pH of around 5.2, very soft, mature tank water. I'm sure it's not too difficult; as Gert says, there is probably plenty of info on Google.

@ Big G. It's the natural cycle of things. Tank mates will also enjoy the treats.

@ Gert thanks, that was my next step. Was looking for an excuse to put a pic up ;)

They're very much like most tetras - egg scatterers. If you find them easy to spawn, I don't see why you don't try raising the fry. Ir'll be good experience under your belt, and you can sell off the fry to further fund your hobby! :D Give it a bash!

@ Tim: My water's pH is about 6.8-7.0 which is too high from what I read. I will gradually lower it until about 5.8-6.0 and see what happens. Who knows I may be tempted to suck up some eggs...but at this stage I am more concerned with achieving optimal water conditions for these fish.

    Thanks

    Vince

You'll be quite surprised that some fish are quite willing to breed in conditions outside of their comfort zone, especially those species which have been bred in artificial conditions over the past few generations. Keep us updated :)
