I have 7 black phantom tetras, 7 neon tetras and 6 leopard corys in my 220l tank. I was considering getting a pair of kribs but I think that I have done too much surfing on the internet because I am now very confused. It sounds like they can be very aggressive and the male would need to be seperated at times. I don't want my other fish to be stressed so should I rather not go ahead with kribs? My PH is 7.5. What experiences have you guys had with them?

I recenty bought 2 female and 1 male krib. have them in a 250l tank with 4 small firemouths and a catfish. the male paird off with 1 of the females. The pair is only aggresive to fish swimming near their territory and chases the other female krib often.Check this site out for some more info. http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/e_krib.php

If the male is large enough he will chow down on your neons, even if they don't fit in one go into his mouth.

Horrors - I think that I'm going to pass on the kribs but I love dwarf cichlids. What dwarf ones can I get that will leave the other fish alone, not get over 10cm, breed easily and be okay in water with a PH of 7.5??? Any suggestions??

Hi Irma I don't know with the breeding but stunning and relatively quiet fellows are the Papiliochromis ramerezi

Hi Irma, I'm no expert but as far as i know dwarf cichlids prefer soft acidic water and alto the will survive at pH 7.5 the will not be "Happy". Maybe find a way to drop your ph...

You can say it is not them but I saw them the next morning gently easing up to them and then MUNCH

Have a look at the article i've put together.
It will give you a better idea what to look for as well as how to sex them.

The PH is not that critical for Dwarfs, it's the GH and KH that poses the problems. The softer the water the better.

As with most dwarfs nowdays, most of the shop bought stock tends to die within a few days of being introduced to a new tank.

I'd say your best bet is with a pair, or trio of Apistogramma cacatuoides.

What causes them to die ? is there something to avoid.

Hey Donny, unfortunately, most of the LFS's sell stock that has been hormone treated and they don't quarantine their fish properly. So they sell the little guys, who are under extreme stress as it is, and they just can't cope with their new surroundings and they inevitably perish.

It's a pity, but there isn't much we can do about it, except stop buying them.
