Hi everyone, need some advice on moving/transporting a big aquarium.

I have the option to purchase a tank, but after viewing it today I could clearly see moving this is not going to be easy at all.

    Dimensions:
    (L)250cm x (W)60cm x (H)75cm. Tank also has a stand, etc.

Need to transport this +/- 35 km within Gauteng.

Are there any places/people you know of that can assist with this? I do not see myself and father in law moving this.

My one uncle passed away and my aunt wants me to take over the tank a.s.a.p. She sold the fish to a local store close by that came to collect the fish from her, but now they ignoring her as well and not wanting to pay her and keep on making new excuses.

    Regard and Many thanks

You're going to need a trailer. 3 meters at least and at least 8 people to pick up that tank :)

I know of a few people who can help you moving it. It's not cheap but PM if you want the numbers.

Thank you, @Whoknows. Do you have an estimate of what the amount could possibly be to do this move?

    You're looking at around R2500 - R3000.
I did mine for less and ended with a broken tank.

Thank you, The one petshop that installed their tank should give me a quote sometime today. Not sure how much they will charge, but I might have to go the safe route and rather pay this and get the tank delivered. Would not want the tank damaged. It's not going to be fun dealing with 1000 Litres of water in my living room area. o_O

I Will pm you for the details this week still if I need it. Thanks for your input @Whoknows

Thanks will give them a call as well and see what they ask. Never moved a tank of this size as the biggest I ever had was a standard 4ft.

That is a good question. I have dreamed of having this big size of an aquarium for many years and delayed this till I moved into a house of my own. I might first wait a month or 2 just to make up my mind, but I might even ask for input again from the forum. Sofar in my mind it was:

    1: Frontosa Tank
    2: Oscars
    3: Jaguar Cichlids
4: Go back and do a nice big Mbuna tank setup with some peacocks as well.

not sure yet, so many options available now with this size tank. even thought of going planted with allot of micro fish involved. Whatever I will decide on this time I'm going to take my time in setting this up and not rushing this setup.

The Aquarium that installed the tank notified me today that they will not be able to help, now waiting for feedback from Wazeers as well and then I'm possibly bribing the guys you know or bribing Topdog to help ;).

Really underestimated the costs on this and what is needed to move such a big tank.

Really sad about the costs people want to charge moving this tank, Guys from Wazeers needs a 1-week notice cause quite busy and asking me R4500 :(. Barely gonna get R2500 together then need to pay for the tank as well.

@Whoknows please pm me the details of your contacts. Want to see what they might charge and how flexible their schedules are. Might need to let this one go in the end. Still checking around to see whom got contacts, but most places scared due to the size of this tank.

On an extra note and to set the record:

Aquarium Centre from Johannesburg was very helpful in all of this. Bernice the owner and a Lady Tanya that does work for them helped out my aunt with rehoming all their fish to them so that they can be sold and gave her a cut on this as well. I have not been to their stores yet, but the interaction that I had with Bernice over the phone was quite positive and sound like she knows her stuff. We've sorted any misunderstandings there were and they have been straight forward and forthcoming and helped her get what was due to her.

When I'm in the area I will pop in and see what they've got and see how they are. They rehomed a total of 14 fish, allot of them quite big of which the only one did not make it, believed might have been stress-related.

If you vist the shop. You need to check out there two massive display tanks. 3.4 and a 3.6 meter tank.

    Thanks!

Looking forward to the visit. My uncle supported them for many many years and always resold his monster fish to this store for credit and restarted his setups and they were always willing to help out.

Unfortunately cannot just do the get trailer thing as we drive an Uno 1100, my father inlaws vehicle needs an engine overall before he can tow any form of loads again. Still checking around as well for alternatives. Most of the family I know that have vehicles that can tow stay to far away.
