    Hey!
Recently began setting up a new tank after a year or so without one. [2 foot tank]

I’ve got Amazonia Aquasoil as the substrate and the tank is currently cycling. Visited an aquatic store yesterday and I’m tempted to look into setting up a planted tank with C02.

    My questions are:

    1. For a 2ft tank, approximately what would the initial outlay be for a CO2 system? What kind of system would you recommend?

    2. What are the maintenance costs of the CO2 system? (CO2, consumables etc.)
How often would I need to replenish CO2?

    3. Does a planted tank with CO2 require a lot more maintenance than a non-CO2 tank?

    4. Would a tank with CO2 require a more specialised tank light? At the moment I’m running a basic LED bar light from the China Mall.

Would appreciate any advice and tips!

    Hi

If you go the co2 route. The expensive outlay will be your co2 bottle and the regulator. You can get the ISTA or even disposable ones, if you don't want to go the extinguisher route.

I run a 5l converted fire extinguisher on my 3ft tank. It usually lasts about 6 months before I refill it. It costs under R100 to full.

You will also need good lighting and some ferts to keep everything in balance...

    Thanks Dean!

What’s the approximate initial outlay for the CO2 bottle and regulator?

Dual gauge regulator, you looking from between R1600 to R3000 depending on brands.

The bottle you will need to phone a fire company near you to get quotes on the bottle and conversation. You can try pet shops but they may be more expensive.
