How big is your tank? How many of each fish have you got at the moment? What substrate (gravel) have you got and what filtration have you got on your tank?

Please do not add a pleco they grow massive, are messy and not good at eating algae. Please search for Fish to avoid, do not know how to add the link on my tablet.

Without specs on your setup as Sean mentioned you will get uninformed information.

its a small tank. 2ft. have normal gravel in it. my filter is the 300l/h electric one that sticks to the glass just under the water level with a air pipe leading outside of the tank. havent bought much fish yet. just have 4 guppies, 2 neons and a cory

i suggest you buy more neons and deffo more cory's. these are schooling fish and they are much happier when in groups of 5 and above, especially that Cory. if you do this you will have much happier healthier fish that display similar behaviors as they would in the wild.

there are loads of nice community fish out there. i would suggest that you go to your LFS. then have a look, see the fish that you like the most, write down their names and then go home, google them and see if the fish that you like the best will fit into your current setup. Dont bother with the advice u get from the LFS, most of the time they have no idea of the individual characteristics and needs of individual fish types.

If you get more neons and corys then I think that your tank will be very close to overstocked. Both neons and corys are schooling fish so you would need to add at least another 4 neons and probably another 2 corys, if not more.
    It's only a 2ft tank.

@fiza - I think you already have a bit of a contrast there with keeping neons and guppies together. I know a lot of people do keep them together, but Guppies, Platies and Mollies needs harder water, while neons are soft water fish. Fish are adaptable to a certain extend, but do keep their requirements in mind.

In the mean time do some research on Harlequin rasboras, Pencilfish, Glowlight tetras, Black neons and Cherry barbs to name a few. If your tank is 60cm or bigger you can also look at Dwarf gouramis. For now stay away from anything with the word "Shark" in it, any Cichlids, other Gouramis ( if you have a 60cm tank or less), Common Plecostomus and Clown loaches. Once you have more experience and a big enough tank you can look at some of these species. Angels are also a fish that pet stores often sell to beginners, but do not mix them with small fish like this. Angels are stunning fish and easy to keep, but they do become aggressive and need a big tank. I would also ad that I will not recommend Mollies to a beginner. They can be tricky to keep and they prefer slightly brackish water. As JP01 said there is a thread right at the top under Beginner Discussions called "Fish to avoid as a newbie". Please read this.

The key to keeping a successfull tank is read, read, read. Always reseach a specific fish species before you buy it. Never just go on the word of the store assistant.

    Good luck with your tank.

    What this user said.

And second on the Mollies they can cause a whole tank to die with their diseases...

A rough guide to tank stocking is 1cm per adult fish per liter of water in the tank.

Is the tank cycled, if not do not add more fish as the bioload will increase even more and you will have a ammonia spike and start losing fish, also called "new tank sindrome"
