advice or assistance im new on this forum

    Hi

    I have discus a 1.2 meter tank only have 2 sponge filters with a compressor ,i have been told its sufficient for the tank and no filter needed (canister) the reason why i ask you this question is that i have 5 hand size discus that was perfectly fine for the past 3 months all of a sudden 3 of my fish are laying on there side and breathing heavy .

    what can be the cause of this there was nothing wrong before with them ...is it because i don't have proper filtration .Is my tank safe with no canister filter as in the cape i know successful breeders with no canister filters only sponge filters please give some advice .
