    Hi Guys,

I know we've discussed tv, Hd etc in the past, however all I want is your opinion on the following:

[h=2]Sony 40†LCD[/h]The 40" BX420 Series delivers all-round entertainment and enjoyment in any living space.

    • Full HD 1080 picture quality with CCFL backlight

    • Live Colourâ„¢ Technology with Advanced Contrast Enhancer

    • BRAVIA Sync

    • XrossMediaBar (XMBâ„¢) Menu System

    • USB Play (Video, Music, Photo)

    • Intelligent Picture Plus
I have the option of buying this at R4499.00.

The question I have... Is it a good Tv? I don't know all the differences between LCD, LED blah blah...I do see it's full HD, and has Bravia Sync on it... which I am assuming is good because I have a bravia home theatre system.

Look, Sony make great TV's. You can't really go wrong. 40 Inch is a nice size as well. It's backlit, but not by LED. My TV is the D series Bravia. It is 3 years old though. But you can't go wrong with a Bravia.

The LED TV's are nicer though.

this particular model is seen as "entry level" but it's a good 1 at that.

Here's a tip for anyone out to buy any consumer products and you have access to a smartphone:
Download an app called QR Scanner (name might differ slightly depending on what app distribution service you use). This turns your phone into a barcode scanner which you then use to scan the product barcode (not the price barcode). This clever (and free!) app then connects you to the web where you can search for price comparisons and product reviews. Amazing little tool which I use often.

Back to your TV, hometheaterreview.com rates it very highly, in fact it's better than their referrence model and the price seems good. I would go for it.

@Zoom, the info I've been reading regarding all the new electronic things has said that the LED is the way to go by way of tv's. Apparently over the next few years LCD and Plasma will be phased out in favour of LED. As for SONY, the only brand that is touted to beat it is the Samsung screens, even though I personally will NEVER touch another Samsung product!

If I were you and could get it for such a good price, I would go for it. Bravia tv's are REALLY nice tv's.

I bought myself the Sony TV over the weekend ... not sure if it is the same model. I think mine is the CX520. Best decision ever. Has the same features as listed above ... plus, built in digital receiver, wifi, online streaming ...., damn good tv if you ask me.

I connected to my dsl connection and get instant access to a whole lot of online tv channel channels. Actually cancelled my dstv ... the internet channels are way better.

I coulda picked up a 32inch Samsung LED today for R2000.00. But it was sold out by the time I drove home, fetched the CC and got back to the office to pay for it!

(Standard Bank "Deal-of-the-day" for standard bank clients have some amazing deals! Blu ray dvd player coming on special sometime next week for R600 I think it was.)

This Sony is going on special next Wednesday. I might just pop down to hirsch to go have a look at the screen.

Hi Zoom, i bought this tv about a month ago for R4999. you can check it out at makro and game as well. this is my second sony bravia, i still have my 32 inch for 4 years with no problems. i would say if the specs meets your needs then you cant go wrong with sony. there are other more pricy models with internet access and more usb and hdmi inputs etc, but if you not going to use it then not worth the extra money. just to confuse you some more....if you want to be "in fashion" for longer then go for LED (much thinner, less bulky) or 3D televisions. the problem is that as time passes, these tv's will become cheaper and you will kick yourself for paying such a high price today. seems that lcd may go out of fashion loke the plasma. cheers

Pity about the samsung deal you missed out on. Sounds like an awesome deal! Lesson learnt is have the cc on you at all times :p
BX420 not a bad choice and that's not a bad price. The bravia sync will be cool with your HT.

I probably will buy it. My error- the Samsung today was R2990. (not R2000). I've actually contact the manager of Hirsch's in strubensvalley to see if he can match that price for me. The deal is through Std Bank, but sold through hirschs.

The reason I had to run home to get the CC was because I have to purchase it with the CC through this "deal of the day".

On Friday a Samsung 8kg top loader goes on for R771!

Scrap the top loader! Watching tv with dirty clothes is better than sitting on the top loader and listening to the radio.
