My mollies started breeding yesterday and I would like some advice on how to care for them. I put them in little breeding tank inside my 90L tank. Any advice would be help full.

    Hi @Antifreez

I have never bred mollies but would assume their fry care is the same as guppies. Get yourself some powdered fry food or crush the adult food to a fine powder. Maybe hatch some Brine Shrimp if you can and feed them that after a light powdered food feeding (line their tummies with powdered food first). Keep changing water in the fry breeding tank as it can get fowled quite easily (if it's a plastic breeding tank and not the net type). Surround the tank with some floating plants and maybe 1 or 2 inside the breeding trap to give them a sense of protection. Keep them in the trap until they look big enough to put with the adults. HTH

Which breeding trap do you have, plastic or netted?

Does it have the small holes in the bottom. If yes, then a nifty trick if you want to change water and cannot pour it out because the fry are on the surface is to lift the trap right out the water. The water will drain from the holes and when it is half empty put it back in the tank and it will fill up on it;s own. This also helps to suck out any food or waste lying on the bottom of the trap.

@Antifreeze I had a bunch of mollies a few years ago.@MarcHawke is 100% correct and nothing wrong with that method. Another method I used was to just leave the adultsto give birth to their young inside your main tank. They are not aggressivetowards their fry but will nip one or two from time to time. All I did was toprovide some plastic plants and ornaments for them to hide. When feeding I would crush some flake food between my fingers to a powder. The adultstend to go for the bigger flakes and the smaller pieces drop to the bottom forthe fry.

@johanbosman: Thanks for the advice, am I correct in saying that they breed every 30 days?

Yes.It may be less or even more.Depends on your tank condition and the condition of your mollies. But I would say 30 days is a good guide.
