I have two in a 3ft tank and one in my other 3ft tank. One tank has mollies other tank only the two. I would say they are about 6cm each.

Rednox is correct. Petshops shouldnt sell these. They get HUGE! Even the average size pond will be too small.. I advise you take them back in exchange for something else

If you want something catfish like, try synodontis or corydoras

The most similar-looking fish I can think of are African glass catfish - they don't get nearly as big as Pangasius, but they aren't quite as active either. They're a little hard to come by but attractive in their own way.

Smaller "shark-type" fish (as I hate to describe them) could include Bala sharks, which are quite active and pretty, but do bear in mind that they too attain a decent size - although much smaller than pangasius - of about 20 to 30cm. A three foot tank might not cut it.

If you just want small fish, ask your shop to point you towards tetras, danios, rasboras, livebearers etc. There are many, many types of these in all sorts of colours, and nearly all get on well enough in a community setup.

    Regards,

One of the most uncanny looking catfish to Pangasius sanitwongsei (except for its barbels) is the Gafftopsail catfish (Bagre marinus), but although smaller they still get huge.
The other catfish that sometimes enter the hobby is the Columbian shark catfish (Ariopsis seemanni) they get to 35cm and can live in freshwater when young, but need increasing levels of salinity as they age.
Then there is the Synodontis petricola that grows to 13cm, which I have read can be very active and they also have somewhat of a shark-like appearance, they come from lake Tanganyika so they prefer water with some hardness.
