    Hi all,

Been a while.. been very busy at work at the moment, all that I've done aquarium wise lately is regular maintenance, and some of my Malawi's actually released some fry, and I was able to save 6 of them and they are growing in my breeding/quarantine tank at the moment.

Aaaaaanyway, cutting one short story long:

I'll be moving into a House soon and the only thing giving me nightmares at the moment is the fact that I'll have to disassemble my tanks and move it to the new place.

    I have the following tanks:

    1.5m (420L) Malawi tank with 0.8m Sump & Stand.

50L Cube tank with tetras and German Blue rams

40L Breeding tank with malawi fry.

The small tanks shouldn't be too difficult, can empty most of the water into my big plastic bin and re set up the small tanks and add the fish.

The big tank is a bit of a bothersome issue.. what I can do is plan it so that I move the big tank just around the time I where to do standard 15-20% WC, that way I only need to transport 70-75% of the water and fill the tank till under the overflow pipe (need to obviously redo the piping for the sump, etc.), and have my 600L/h pump and heater run in the remaining water till the new PVC weld cures and everything is in place, then I can redo the rest of the setup.

Sheesh.. such a big hasstle.. if I had known I was going to move so soon, I wouldn't have bought the big tank when I did.

This time I'm going to build a wooden box for it and move the tank over the balcony, as up the stairs was a HUGE mission.

Anyhow, tips and advice from own experience welcome!!! :)

    Regards,

    M

Hi Warnoob. Why do you want to transport the water. Nothing wrong with a 90% water change. If you not moving far you can even keep the fish in the tank with just enough water for them to be fully submerge. prepare water at the new house 2 or 3 day before the actual move. heat and airate. Hope it helps.

    Hi,

I moved a silver dollar, tinfoil, rainbow shark, albino pengasius & silver arrowana at the start of this month, only took about 10% of the water and all went well. They are doing well so far.

I would advise to most importantly keep your filter media wet at all times to help with the move.

Let me know if you want to ask anything.

Also a side note: It took some of my fish almost 3 weeks before they started eating again. I would advise you dont feed them for the first day or two and also dont switch on lights in the tank, let them get used to everything. It all depends as everyone has a different experience with moving fish.

    All the best!!!

Thanks for the comments guys!! Thought that a 90% water change would be harmful to the fish. What I'll then do is fill the bath at the new house with fresh water and airate and prepare it so long, then that's at least a couple of 100L worth of new treated water for them.

Sure I'll manage.. anyone willing to come help with the 100kg tank? :p lol

I also moved my malawi tank the other day with no problems. I've got well on almost sixty fish in my tank and not one of them died or took strain from the move. The encouraging thing is that once you put them back into the tank you will probably see alot of courting behavior and not to long after that see a couple of females carrying.

It sounds like you have a large fish tank, so good luck with the move.

We're moving at the end of June so this thread has been quite helpful.

I think it would be easier to ask if we can bring the one tank a few days before the time, then when we move, we take the fish first so they can get acclimatised, then move the second tank and get that one set up.
Oh boy... this is going to be a mission LOL
