I am trying to breed guppies in a 50 litre tank. The PH level is about 8.2 which I believe is too high for breeding.
As drift wood is said to reduce PH I removed a piece which had been in my large tank for 12 years and placed it in the guppy tank. Will this still be effective considering the time it's been in my large tank?
Alternatively, I have a peat moss brick and a packet of loose peat but have no idea of the quantity to use.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

hello, peat will work, take about a hand full and stick it in sum old stocking or sumthing, put in the tank and check water ph twice a week. There are also Tetra Blackwater Extract that u can buy and it works great.Another great water conditioner that works nicely for breeding guppies is dried out banana tree leaves.Hope this helps ;)

Do the banana leaves stain the water?

No banana leaves won't stain the water but should be replaced once a month.
