MTS has hit early and I need some advice on how to reorganise my current stock.

I have a 150l community tank - I changed the substrate yesterday to be better for the Elephant noses and the Corys. (They are so much happer in the river sand and pea pebbles!!).

My tank is a bit overstocked, so I bought a new 380l tank which I want to setup over the next week.
I'm planning on doing a planted tank (CO2 included) and I'm planning on using red jasper as substrate with Seachem tablets and Flourish to assist the plants. Perhaps even using pots with different substrate for some plants. (Any advice welcome). I'm also planning on creating a current in the tank with a powerhead.

    Currently I have the following:
    10 guppies
    8 neons
    8 red danios
    2 bala sharks (tiny)
    2 rainbow sharks (tiny)
    4 corys (2 schwartzi and 2 julii)
    2 elephant noses (small)
    2 redlined torpedo barbs
    1 sumo laoch (tiny)
    1 small pleco

I thought for the new tank I'll add one elephant nose, 1 rainbow shark, 2 bala sharks, the sumo loach and the 2 torpedo barbs. (The one elephant nose is hounding the less dominant one).
    Would these moves make sense?

Any advice on whether I should increase the numbers of any of the fish - e.g. number of balas? (New tank is about 120 x 55 x 60)
    Any suggestion for new fish?
Would a peacock eal be comfortable in the 380l planted tank and with the companions mentioned above?

    Thanks!

I don't know but I've heard that you should only have 1 elephant nose because of the electronic signals they use to navigate. (something like that)

I was told the samething when I bought them, but since day 1 the more dominant elephant nose has been chasing the other one through the tank. I also read that if you keep two then the dominant one can sometimes bully the other one to death.

Maybe just provide more safe hiding places for the small one.

    Hi Freshwater

Personally I think elephant noses are only in aquariums to die.

They always hide and is never really happy and slowly starve to death.

Its one fish that should never have been introduced into the pet trade.

    That's just my thought.

The Balas are only slightly bigger than the female guppies at the moment. They are relocating to the new tank next week, so I don't foresee any "free lunch" or breakfast in their near future...

They are actually the same size - they just have different size attitudes. So where the one can go the other follow. There are 2 caves at the moment and some plants. The one normally hides out, but the other one go seek him/her out and the chase continues.

They actually seem quite happy in general - they eat their bloodworms from the ground, filter sponge and occasionally mid-air.
I just feel bad for the one that gets chased around half the day.

I was told that they use an electrical current similar to black ghost knifes and therefore it is better to keep more than one.

@Vis - At the moment they seem to get enough food. At the time I bought them I knew very little and I was looking for a "feature" fish for the tank. Planned on buying one and was told to take at least two. Wasn't even told that they needed bloodworms. I googled straight after buying them (yes - should have done it before!) and found out - otherwise they would have starved! At the moment I just want to take care of them as well as possible - advice on whether to split them up or keep them together would be appreciated. I did learn my lesson and I am now asking for advice before buying and buying from Altum who gives proper advice along with the fish!

Freshwater its fine if you can keep them happy. I just meant in general these die by the hundreds in aquariums and you rarely see them in a tank because they hide all the time.

I noticed that my guppies tails were totally rearranged while I was on holiday. I suspected the balas, rainbow shark and even the torpedo barbs - had no idea it would be the danios!
