MWEB aims to ‘free the web’ with the lowest prices ever on uncapped ADSL accounts
An online social media campaign called ‘Free The Web’ has over the past few days gained momentum, sparking speculation that one of the larger companies are planning something big.
A Facebook page was created with the message “We're frustrated by the limitations of the internet in SA. Let's celebrate the greatness of the web and call for a change! Join us and be the first to know when we succeed in our cause to Free The Web in SA!â€
This Facebook page quickly grew in popularity through both word of mouth and an aggressive advertising campaign, and has to date attracted over 13,000 fans.
The company behind the initiative, which was until recently unknown, said that “Our grand plan is announced in just a few days time [today].â€

that all seems nice but lets not forget the rental that we have to pay for renting the telkom line which is roughly about R150, and also having to rent an ADSL line which is roughly another R150, so thats R300 + R219 = R519, ain't so cheap anymore...but i have heard that some companies don't charge for ADSL line rental, lets hope this is the case with MWEB....never the less, glad to see the price dropping...nice thread Toyerk...

That all inclusive price, I wonder if that includes the adsl line rental, because if it does then that's R200 more than what we're currently paying for a 4mb 5gb package with telkom.

actually it is Uncapped All-inclusive 384kbps: R349 + Telkom Line rental of R150 = R499 for an uncapped service, I say it is worth it:blink1:

the all inclusive includes the ADSL line rental as far as I know

@Linxie - you are saying that you have a 4mb line with all line rentals inclusive for R700?

    Who's the competitor Toyerk?

    That's correct JesseG
It changes by a few rand every month, but on average we pay R700.00 for the cap, adsl line rental, telephone line rental as well as that call option that you have to take which they don't tell you about.

Toyerk, Telkom employees are lucky! Geez man, you guys get the fastest line & its uncapped... you a manager there aswell?

JesseG my sister in law also works for Telkom, the company is in a real mess and she struggles to get a job elsewhere.

SA is still very expensive, Australians have uncapped 20mb lines for 50AUD (R337). Just shows how we are being ripped off once again.

nope not in management, I deal with escalations regarding internet problems and I have a 384 line at home, so not all Telkom employees are that lucky to have 8MBps at home

In India you can get uncapped 256k for R35

Tell them they're ripping you off Toyerk :D you deserve atleast a 4mg line

JesseG you should see how much cap COD MW2 chows when hosting... most of the time we end up buying another 4gb just for online gaming.

Would actually like to go for the neotel uncapped package, but waiting for their speeds to increase first before we decide on that (then keep the 4mb just for gaming)

its not what you deserve but what you can afford, have to pay for the line, it is not free, even though there is a discount or rebate as it is called
