Where are you based? I got mine at Builder's Express, and I'm in Durban.

Wait. So R1500 for that tank, all cut? You Just have to assemble?

Suddenly I want to build a shrimp tank too! Any reason why you went acrylic and not glass?

Nice work ... what is the thinking here.

    Filter media:
    2) Bating
    3) 10 ppi sponge
    4) Ceramic media

    5) pump with pipe to do the return.

Why the dead spot at 1 ?

I actually want to put in a sandbed at the back and put in some moss with a light to soften the water. Chamber one will run trough a container as well but yes basically like you said.

DSB in a freshwater ... I have had some toxic sand in tanks. Not fun and turns on you real quick.. Better off with more polishing and ceramic filtration.

The boyu 550's typically have four chambers, but you could get way with three.

I would say remove 1, extend 2 - leave a gap at the bottom and extend 3 all the way to the bottom.
Make sure that the length of 3 is your heater plus a bit more at minimum.

Seeing that is a smallish tank I will try to maximise the biological part on the filter. The return part will only house your return pump and heater. A 50W heater should be fine for that, average lenght about 300mm. Take your return pump size + 10mm for that chamber. You will still be able to add some batting at the top of it to catch any gunk polish your water before returning to tank
