It's the next exciting episode of FML, folks!

At least this time I can see what's what. The spots are getting more numerous, and larger. Not all of the cardinals are affected; the barbs appear to be completely unaffected at this stage. The affected fish are swimming normally, eating and not doing any flashing.

    So many questions:

    1. This is ich, right?
    2. How much time do I have?
    3. Do I treat all the fish or only the cardinals?
    4. I have a 33L spare tank - is this big enough for 10 medium barbs and 10 cardinals of various sizes?

Any tips on going about doing the treatment would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Was planning on doing that. Have a look at the video I posted, I goes into a bit on how disease is always present in our tanks and only becomes an issue when the fish are stressed and susceptible.

Get Seachem Paraguard, and dose at 1.5-2x recommended dosage on bottle. In the planted tank, it is safe with plants and shrimps. Dose daily for 2 weeks. I used this on my 240 liter planted tank (probably net amount of liters around 180-200) with shrimp and snails (dosage was 42ml per day on a ~200 liter tank, split into 6 dosages of 7ml every 4 hours with a doser) and only the white spot died.

Plus Paraguard contains glutaraldehyde, the same ingredient as Flourish Excel, so will kill off some algae as well.

Thanks. I have Pond Medic methylene blue, malachite green (which contains formalin too according to the label) and was hoping to use those - but it requires setting up a HT and catching the fish - not looking forward to that, my tank is densely populated with plants and hardscape. If Paraguard works in-tank then I'll see if I can find a local supplier who can do a rush delivery.

raise the water temp to 30 or so, herbtana from microbelift always works for me, and it does not stain your silicone..

Thanks, I'll do this as well in the meantime. I ordered 500ml of Paraguard, it should be here tomorrow.

    Hang in dere, feesh!

Fun factoid: It takes 2.2MJ of energy to not flip one's lid.

PS - I've cranked the heater and I've turned off the ADA light and am only running the 12-watter for supposed de-stressing. But now I'm worried about oxygen along with the heat.

So do I choose lower light + airstone or full lighting?

add an airstone if you have, the fish will appreciate the dark while they recovering

Water temperature is now up to 28'C, and one of the male barbs has turned into an absolute TERROR. He's claimed the whole front of the tank and drives all the others away, who are now skulking in among the plants. It almost looks like some sort of breeding behaviour triggered by the temperature spike.

Luckily he's leaving the tetras alone.

Water is also turning cloudy - another bloom and I hope it remains mild.

if you have another tank, you can put him in a timeout for a few days, give the others a chance to get some decent food and to colour up and feel confident, then you can add the male back

One of the barbs is poorly and is hiding very furtively in among the dense rotala. But I think/hope it's behavioural - the others seem fine. My meds can't come soon enough - the tetras are getting their dandruff on big time.

Down the hatch! Dosage on the label is 1 capful per 40L, my tank is 90L+15odd for the canister - rocks - substrate. I've added 3 capfuls and that should hopefully suffice going forward. Thanks for the advice! My feesh are also grateful, although they have trouble forming the words.

Oh and it instantly stained all the vinyl items in the tank, lel. Least of my worries.

Besides, suckers deserve to be blue. It's a Law of the Cosmos.

OMW. The canister is barfing out enormous wads of biofilm.

Oh and if anyone says a word about my bed head there's going to be kak.
