    Hi guys,

So, a few years ago I manage to get three, what was to me very special looking Discus. I had always hoped that Id be lucky enough to get a pair from only the three, but being so few the odds were against me.
However, as luck would have it it turned out that I had two males and one female.
To be honest, I wouldnt know what exactly these Discus are, so on appearance only I decided to call them Madeira Royal blues.
The parents have nice yellowish bodies but with the prominent ever present 5th bar that is found in Heckels and some Natural hybrids.
It has never been easy to get the pair to spawn, they dont just proceed to spawn with water changes etc as most domestics do, so getting them to breed has never been an easy venture. They are very good parents though, and looked after their first spawn untill the third day free swimming before calling it a day.
Then unfortunately many weeks pass before they succumb to spawning again.
This here is a photo of the pair

I have always hoped to get some fry from them, and was very interested in knowing if the same mid-bar prominance will be present in the fry. Some very conflicting reports exist, with most saying that mid-bar prominance will disappear in offspring.
So a few months ago I managed to get a very small amount of fry raised, only 7! They have now reached just more than four mths and finally I can see some fry loosing control of the mid-bar, and it thus becomes prominent or visible in negative.

Here are some pics of the juvies. Most seem to be somewhat Royal blue to brown even, with one that has very nice red dots often found in greens on its flanks. The mother also has these red dots.

Please tell me what you guys think!

Well done @Marco this is a reason to celebrate. Are these the fry that were born around the same time as mine that you mentioned to me last month if so I see that the growth rate is very good and they are looking like they will colour up nicely and that mid bar is defiantly pronounced well done again.

    Hi @jpvd007

Thanks Jason. Im very happy with them. All the more since as usual the parents havent spawned again since. Im hoping by November they will start again, I seem to get them to spawn more regularly by years end.
These are the the ones yes - if I remember correctly they are a week older than yours.
Im not expecting too much colouring, which wouldnt bug me in the least. Thus far except for one which has quite a bit of colour on the flanks, the red dots are the only colour on one, with the rest showing very litlle colour away from head and fin areas. Its still early days though.

    Rgds

Stunning Discus Marco! I have always been a fan of the natural varieties of fish, and these are amazing! One day, when I set up a big tank, I want fish like these in it!

WOW! @Marco I don't know much about discus , but these are some of the better looking specimens I have seen. Someday in the near future I will venture the discus waters as well. Congrats

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

@jabula - Ill be keeping them for the next few months. I want to see how they develop etc, so although Ive promised a few to someone, its not going to happen soon, they need to get to about 10cm before I decide on them.

    Hey Marco
This is some great work! Really not easy!
Looking at the parents, I would have said some RSG origin, hence the spots on the juvie.
    Once again well done!
    Cheers
